So I go to a Catholic highschool, and every year, each grade has some form of a "retreat day" in which we basically do something as a whole class, normally with some sort of religious aspect to the whole thing. This year, we're all going to the March for Life in Washington DC this upcoming Friday. However, this isn't a thread to debate religious beliefs or stances on abortion, but about something else entirely. I happened to be browsing Cheezburger a couple days ago, when I saw a post about a peaceful protest being held by the online group Anonymous in DC about the arrest of a software writer who ended up committing suicide, or something like that, as far as I can remember. But then, I noticed that it fell on the exact same day as our trip to DC! I'm pretty excited, since I'll most likely see them at some point during the day. So how do you feel about Anonymous? Like them, hate them, indifferent? |

I'm indifferent to them, but I'm kind of starting to like them ever since they started trolling Westboro Baptist. That conter-protest won major brownie points from me. Westboro tried to protest the funerals of the Sandy Hook victims, but Anonymous shut them down. Verdict: They can be real douches at times, but anybody who trolls/hates Westboro Baptist is a-okay with me! |

They have been attacking people who trample civil liberties and civil rights. The right to internet. The right to freedom of expression. The right to technology. The right to share as we please. The only thing that could surpass them is if we could get a lightning storm, or some freak earthquake to wipe out LA and the MPAA, and the EU counterpart. Anyone who wants to control internet should be removed as a factor. GO ANONYMOUS! (and, you're referring to the guy who founded Reddit, and was caught legitimately copying data from MIT?) |

If I'm reading this correctly, and I think I am... Then anonymous is basically a technological government of hackers that protect people's privacy rights when it comes to the Internet? GO ANONYMOUS |

I like them. I like what they do. I only hope that, in their zeal, they won't cause more trouble. You know, if they, too, start trampling people's rights with the excuse of the 'greater good'. Because the ends don't justify the means. |

I think they`re awesome, they took down several child pornography sites a while ago. I think they should be recognized as heros in some aspects. SOME. |

They're like any other kind of political movement for me. Everything starts off with a good objective, but with time, humans corrupt it into their own desires. Yes, I'm overly pessimistic about this kind of thing. xD They seem cool so far, though! |

I'm fairly indifferent to them. I mean they fight for good causes and go after the bad people that rightly deserve it. I just think sometimes there are better ways other than the extreme measures that they do, but sometimes extreme measures is what it takes. I mean they do what they feel is right and that is something that most, if not all, people are raised to do and think. |

Oh yeah, I completely forgot to mention this, but the trip got cancelled on account of dangerous weather (1.5 inches of snow, holy crap!), so I never did end up getting to see anonymous. Darn. |

1.5 inches isn't a lot. Three or four is a possible snow day in Michigan. Anyway, that really sucks, not seeing Anonymous. |

It was meant to be sarcastic, like wow, 1.5! So... yeah. But I do really wish I was able to see them. That, and I had been looking forward to the day for about a month beforehand, so it was a letdown in both ways. |

To me Anonymous is like the Dark Knight of the internet. I love them; they know how to clean up a mess and send a message. |

I think they're pretty pathetic, because they're don't support anything to cause change: they "do it for the lulz." Literally, their intention is to be a pain in the ass. They don't care about results; they care about their own amusement. Whether they cause change or not, nothing is intentional. There's not a single legitimate news source that takes them seriously, nor does any government agency. They might support the right cause, but mostly for the wrong reasons and by the wrong means. |
