Why is it that with some pokemon's DP sprites you only show one of the genders not both?
And why is it when you copy some sprites from the site the background of the sprite comes out black?

In answer to your first question, it doesn't display both genders on all of them, because with most Pokemon there is absolutely no difference between the male and female forms. On Pokemon like Golbat, Butterfree, Venusaur, Snover, and others, the differences are pointed out.
In answer to your second question, I really don't know. Maybe it's a transparency issue or something.

Paint doesn't support transparency, which is why the background is black. Try a REAL image program like Photoshop or GIMP.

...and to prevent any embaressing google searches, here's a link to the GIMP download site, and use Mega_Horn's very good download tutorial to help you.
Additionally, don't copy and paste the sprites. Save them (as a .png) and open them in GIMP. If you *can't* get it for whatever reason, Paint can suffice for simple recolours and revamps.
