I hope another topic like this hasn't been made. If that is the case, then all I can say is "Oops, my bad!"
Anyway. As you can see, my avatar has a nasty white background. Even though I saved it in MS Paint so that it was not "Drawn Opaque." This should make the background transparent, but obviously it won't show up that way when I upload it as an avatar.
I have also tried using the "Print Screen" button on a page with posts on it, then purposely used the same blue color behind every avatar in the forums as a background for my own. This didn't work either-I mean, it looks better than the white, but for some reason the blue is a darker shade of blue than what it's supposed to be so it still shows as a different (not transparent) background.
All of the avatars in the gallery have transparent backgrounds, and I have seen a few custom avatars people use which have transparent backgrounds, so I must be doing something wrong. Or maybe it just won't work in Paint?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, as this has been annoying me to the point of insanity.

Paint isn't very good for transparency. If you want real, true transparency try GIMP.
I'll edit in with a link to download it.
EDIT: All right here it is. This link is a GIMP Download Tutorial.
