I really love jazz music. I want to make my career performing it, either as a vocalist, pianist, or bassist. I was curious....I am usually in the minority in my love of this art. Am I alone here?

No. I love jazz basslines. Listening, playing, pretending to play...It's very intense.

Even though I listen to rock and metal, a whole lot more, jazz is actually pretty cool music. I prefer instrumental, though. One of the animes I watch, Cowboy Bebop, uses jazz.

Hey,
That's really great to make career in it.
Well, I love to jazz-flavored numbers and also trying to learn jazz piano. However, I also like Classical, alternative, brit pop.

Be specific: WHAT sub genre of jazz are you talking about? Swing? Bebop? Third Stream? Dixieland? Blues? Or are you a mutt, like me, who adores all of it?

Personally, as a trumpet player, i'm big on the cool jazz era, with the good ol' combo of Miles Davis and Bill Evans. The sounds they make are amazing

I was guitarist for my school jazz band for two years and it was the only aspect of band that I really miss. Its not my favorite music but it grooves and is quite relaxing.
'cept now my guitar playing has a predominant jazzy sound to it that I just can't shake so I don't know if thats a good or bad thing.

Yeah, my school has a Jazz band. I'm not in it, but they play some pretty cool pieces compared to the regular band. I've been playing the Trombone for three years, and now I have to march for the Memorial day Parade in two weeks (oh no).

That parade is the very reason that I quite band. Well that and an even longer parade that we have to do after school is over, and my old band director was an idiot.

My band director is cool, and he's pretty much why I'm still in band. Luckily, I'll have him as my Band Teacher up until the end of High School.
According to a flyer I got today, "If its bad weather, the parade will be moved into the High School Auditorium. At this point, any Middle School Students will not have to attend due to lack of space." This would be good, but I'm also in the Boy Scouts, so if its raining and its moved to the High School, I'll still have to attend as a scout (D'oh!).

That kinda sucks. How would they have it in the auditorium, would it just be a concert or would they actually try to march?

I'm really not sure. Maybe the observers sit in the seats in the middle, while the others march around them. All I know is that its never rained on Memorial Day in my lifetime.

I like smooth jazz. It's all sexy sounding.
