Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness are a matched pair of Pokemon games for the Nintendo DS. It follows the same style of gameplay as its predecessors, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue and Red Rescue Teams. Being the sequels to the original game, they come with new features and Pokemon from the 4th Generation. All these make for an enhanced gaming experience.

Like the original Mystery Dungeon games, your character is a human who has mysteriously transformed into a Pokemon, and you start off by forming an expedition team with your partner to explore the land. As the story progresses, you will slowly unravel the reasons behind this transformation.

Choosing Your Starter

The process of choosing your Starter is the same as that of the original Mystery Dungeon games. When you first begin your game, you will be prompted to answer some personality questions, with the purpose of determining which Pokemon you will become. After you have answered the personality questions, you will be prompted to provide your gender. Based on your personality and gender, the game will then determine which Pokemon you will become. This will be your main character throughout the main storyline.

While the game asks you to answer the questions honestly, you are of course free to provide any answer. As such, if you are aiming for a specific Pokemon, you should aim to match its personality when answering the questions. Unlike Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue Rescue Teams, however, there are no longer any Starters that are limited to a particular gender.

Here is a list of the Starter Pokemon and their corresponding personalities and genders. There are a total of 16 Starters.

Format: Pokemon | Personality (Male) | Personality (Female)

Image Bulbasaur | Lonely | Docile
Image Charmander | Docile | Brave
Image Squirtle | Quirky| Bold
Image Pikachu | Brave | Hasty
Image Meowth | Sassy | Relaxed
Image Chikorita | Calm | Quiet
Image Cyndaquil | Timid | Calm
Image Totodile | Jolly | Sassy
Image Treecko | Quiet | Hardy
Image Torchic | Hardy | Rash
Image Mudkip | Rash | Lonely
Image Skitty | Hasty | Naive
Image Turtwig | Bold | Timid
Image Chimchar | Naive | Impish
Image Piplup | Impish | Quirky
Image Munchlax | Relaxed | Jolly

Choosing Your Partner

After you have chosen your starter (or rather the game has chosen your starter for you), you will be prompted to choose a Pokemon to serve as your partner. This Pokemon will be an important character as he/she will remain part of your team on every mission until the main storyline is completed. As such, it would be wise to choose a partner Pokemon who will complement your starter well.

Here is a list of the Pokemon you can choose to be your partner:

-Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup

Note that you cannot choose Meowth, Skitty, nor Munchlax as your partner. You also cannot select a partner who shares the same type as your starter. For instance, if your starter is a Squirtle, you will not be able to choose Totodile, Mudkip or Piplup as your partner.

Mudkip and Charmander work great, especially against Dialga if Mudkip knows mud slap.

The Personality Test

As with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue, at the start of the game, you will take part in a Personality Test, in which you will be asked a series questions to decide which of the 16 available personality types you are. Based on the results, as well as the gender you choose, you will be assigned a Pokemon to represent you as the main character of the game.

While you can answer honestly, it is also perfectly fine for you to aim for a particular Pokemon as your starter. This guide will therefore aid you in answering questions that align you with specific persoanlity traits, and hence allow you to land the Pokemon you want as your starter.

Questions and Answers

You will be asked a series of questions in the Personality Test, and depending on your responses, points will be added to specific personality traits. At the end of the questionnaire, the points will be tallied. The personality trait in which you have the most points will be the personality of your starter. Should there be a tie between more than one Personality, you will be assigned one at random. Based on the Personality and the gender chosen, you will be assigned a starter.

Image

The questions asked each time are random. There are a total of 16 groups of questions, and the game chooses eight groups randomly, before further choosing one random question from each group. The quiz ends after eight questions.

Auras

A new feature in the Personality Test for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness is the Auras Test. After the Personality Test is complete, you will be asked to press your finger on the touch screen of your Nintendo DS. The game will then decide an Aura Colour for you. Most of the time, the colour picked will be what you picked as the background colour for your Nintendo DS's colour settings.

Image

Auras do not seem to have any particular use, save for one. In the game, you will come across coloured Bows which are Hold Items. There is one Bow for each Aura Colour. However, only the Bow with a colour that corresponds to your Aura Colour will work. The other Bows will just be ordinary bows of no value. These Bows, when held, will slightly raise the Attack, Defense, Special Attack and Special Defense stats of the Pokemon.

The Colours

There are a total of 16 different possible colours for your Aura, each of which has a corresponding Bow. Listed here are the description of each colour, as well as the Bow that corresponds to each of the colours.

Image

A stately silver - Silver Bow
A subdued brown - Brown Bow
A fiery red - Red Bow
An uplifting pink - Pink Bow
A stunning orange - Orange Bow
An energetic yellow - Yellow Bow
A brilliant green - Lime Bow
A refreshing green - Green Bow
A deep green - Viridian Bow
A gentle mint green - Minty Bow
A clear aqua blue - Blue Bow
A cool sky blue - Sky Blue Bow
A smart marine blue - Cobalt Blue Bow
A mystic purple - Purple Bow
An elegant violet - Violet Bow
A vivid pink - Fuschia Bow

You can PM me the info I guess, but posting it here or in the Orre/Fiore/Beyond Section would be my preference.

I haven't been playing the game much, if at all, hence the lack of guides :x

Gabite* (78SR -H2M P0+4 Y6FY 1&Y+ #R9S)
*:Gabite is unable to be recruited.

your welcome ;)

the storyline is like the first one in someways, but varies greatly in others
NOTE: this does NOT include services and items that have changed/been added since PMD1

same:

1.one mission prior to becoming a team
2.a fugitive-run-like situation(PMD2 escape the future)
3.climax(final battle) takes place at the end of a tower-like dungeon(PMD1 Sky Tower, PMD2 Temporal Tower)
4.antagonist(evil) team (Team Skull, Skuntank, Koffing, Zubat)
5.a sad "farewell" after resolution( i got teary eyed)followed by the player's return after credits
6.unknown "past" as human
7.evolution avalible after main storyline

different:

1.character from player's life before losing memory is present
2.player is from the future
3.two dungeons leading up to the final battle
4.dungeons are in game that you can't return to including:
Main Storyline
Chasm Cave(future)
Dark Hill(future)
Sealed Ruin and Deep Sealed Ruin (future)
Dusk Forest and Deep Dusk Forest(future)
Post-game Storyline
The Nightmare
5. minions from future attempt to stop the player's team from changing the future on orders from Primal Dialga in future
6. main characters can't evolve right away, other events in post-game storyline must take place first
7. problems in both main and post-game storyline are caused by an evil pokemon(Darkrai)

Like the 1st PMD game, there are many boss battles before and after the main story line.

Zubat and Koffing

these two swipe your partner's treasure, the Relic Fragment, and flee into Beach Cave. This dungeon is the equivelent of the Tiny Woods in PMD1
after you clear the 4 floors in the dungeon, you will corner the crooks in the Beach Cave Pit and the battle will begin after some brief dialog.

after you defeat them they will begrudingly hand it over and run.

I think there is something wrong about your guide on Auras. I've completed the game, but I've yet to find coloured bows that I didn't get from the personality test. If there is no mistake about the ability to find bows in dungeon, where can I find them?

I didn't mention that you could find them in dungeons, but perhaps saying that you would come across coloured bows in the game was misleading. I'm still not sure if you can get them from missions or completing certain events since I've not completed the game myself to find out, hence locations for the bows aren't listed (yet).

now i have a basic list of the the serivces that you can find in treasure town

same

kecleon shop- now you can buy gummis for about 800 poke each and you can also buy keys for 8000 poke

bank

marowak dojo- not avalible until later in the main storyline and items in bag will be lost, however, both money and items can be found in the mazes, which are 5 floors each, but do not have a one room battle at the end. after all the mazes are cleared, a new passage way will open to the most difficult maze
Final Maze, 45 floors long and under the same item restriction that the other mazes are, but the pokemon in this maze CAN BE RECRUITED. on certain floors of the dungeon, the appearance of the floor will change and the legendaries Jirachi, Suicune, and Moltres can be found. after this maze is completed, marowak will give you a brown bow

link shop

Xatu's appraisal- bring any treasure boxes you find in dungeons to be opened

chansey's daycare- eggs obtained are cared for and hatched

and about the bow question. They cannot be found in dungeons, but they can be obtained via wondermail. Try The Ultimate Pokemon Center. they even have an SOS to A-OK mail converter

One thing I've noticed in PMD2 is the basic structures of dungeon floors and the frequency of a certain structure appearing in a certain dungeon. i.e. Dark Crater (Darkrai's place, whatever it's called) most commonly has the web structure:

xxxxxxRxxxxxRxxxxxx
xxxxxx|xxxxx|xxxxxx
R-------|------|-------R
xxxxxx|xxxxx|xxxxxx
