I've been putting this off for too long, so deal with it. And yes, I know, English isnt an option. And neither is French.
Cry about it.
So, foreign languages. Which ones do you know? How fluent are you in said language(s)? Do you know any at all?
How about the ones you want to learn?
Well, I know some spanish to a point where I get basic conversation, but I'm on my own after that.
German, I know cat (katze), nien (no), du (you), frei (fight), feuer (fire), mein (my), mich (me), hast (hate), kampf (struggle), and a bit more, but one phrase I know, and have come to love, is fek dusch (**** you). 8-)
Russian, I want to know with a burning passion. Just so that I can walk around and yell random **** at people in russian, just because I have the ability to do so. And to find out what the Russians in CoD are saying.

I speak good Spanish, but I can't call it fluent. I am able to make general conversation but flop at pretty much anything else. And I wish I could speak French really badly.

I am convinced that the only way to truly learn a language is to literally move to a correlating country. Otherwise, speaking fluently is close to impossible. At least for me.

@twisted: Samurott doesn't like France. That's probably why its not on the poll.
I'm fluent in Spanish, and I'm learning German.

Why not just remove Russian? Out of all the ones you listed, Russian is the least likely to be spoken.

As for myself? I had to take Spanish in high school but that's about as far as it goes. (I only remember about half of what I was taught.) I'd like to know some more German and maybe Japanese, but not enough to want to teach myself how to actually speak the language, as of yet.

If only I knew Russian, I'd tell you that I fixed it for you... In Russian.

I speak Korean fluently because I was born in South Korea, and my parents are Korean. Asian swag <3 *shot*

Anyway, I also speak some Spanish, thanks to four years of study in my high school. And I understand like two or three sentences in French, but that's it. And one word in Italian, and a few in German. And like one word in Russian, but can't be sure. That's it. (And that's counting the languages I got few words out of books I happen to read xD) Yeah... I don't speak too many languages "fluently" or even "somewhat", other than Korean, English, and somewhat Spanish.

On a more related note, I might also want to learn Danish one day in case I ever fulfill my odd desire of wanting to move one day to Denmark.

I'm fluent in English and...Irish. Most pointless language to be fluent in but hey, I didnt make the rules. It's similar to German which will make it nice when I start to learn that but god, what a waste of my life.

I've discovered I have quite a language-y brain so I'm also quite fluent in French, and I'm going to college in two months (gasp!) to study French and pick up Spanish. I'm also gonna learn German on the side because I've always wanted to speak it! I dont really want to learn Spanish but I've heard college German is really hard, and I guess it's useful. It's also similar to French, woo!

The last language I have an interest in learning is Russian, but it looks ridiculously difficult. I'd love to speak Japanese too but I can't draw and I see their letters as pictures, not characters, so that's that out the window haha.

Wait. The Irish Language is a stand alone language?
I always thought the Irish Language was like American language, like a variant of the English language.

Haha, all you Americans seem to think that! That'd be Hiberno-English, which is funnily how I speak it and I didn't realize a lot of people don't say things I do. "I'm just after eating" would be perfectly acceptable to me but apparently no one outside Ireland would say it, which I find really weird. :P

Irish is its own language, yes, but it died during the famine and when Ireland was colonised by Britain. So now they've been trying to revive it for almost 100 years and it's actually a requirement to get into 99% of colleges here unless you have an exemption, and most people hate it. It's pretty unique, and by unique I mean the words are basically gibberish except for random similarities to French and then made up words (car is carr for some reason, when there is actually a word for it - so it's been diluted with nonsense).

Fun fact: The phrases "So long" and "Smashing" come from the Irish "Slán" and "Is maith sin", which mean "goodbye" and "that's good", and probably came about because of the amount of Irish people who emigrated to America in the past.

And that is your little Irish history lesson for the day, and no, leprechauns do not exist but yes, we are a nation of drunks and gingers. :P

Anything even microscopically related to French is good in my book. XD

Also, is Gaelic the same thing as Irish?

I think you're confusing "language" with "dialect". 'American' isn't its own language; it's a dialect (variant) of English.

It's like the difference between Latin American Spanish and Castilian Spanish - they're both dialects of the same language. (The Spanish language has about 10 different dialects though, and Italian probably even more than that, but I was just giving an example.)

Sounds like Welsh.

I wouldn't say it's as bad as Welsh but I grew up with it so I'm used to it. Welsh is just...how do you even make those sounds?!

Yeah, lol, I went to bed at 5am because I just got back from New York and my brain is still on American time. I woke up at 2pm.

Agreed! :D

Nope, Irish is "Gaeilge" and Gaelic is spoken in parts of Scotland. I can understand Gaelic though and would probably be able to carry a conversation in it, it's unbelievably similar - I dont really know how they're two different languages! More similar than Spanish and French, but both probably as useless in the modern world as each other. :P

I think a better question would be "Is swag coded in DNA?"

Now that I got that out of my system, I do speak Spanish. Which is funny, because 80% of Samurott's friends speak better Spanish than him.

And that is why I have a distaste towards the French language. It just looks unappealing and sounds like an animal barfing imo. No offense to anyone out there who might take offense to this.
